Casting call for extras


We are looking for a diverse group of men and women to play extra on a low budget feature film.

Lookig for:
20's to mid 60's looking men and women
All ethnicities
must be NON-UNION 
Shoot will take place in Honolulu sometimes between 1/10/15 to 1/12/15
Pay rate:   HI minimum wage

Production title: Phases of Mahina

Project : Short Film (Thesis Project) | Drama| Non-Union

Production location: Honolulu, Hawaii

*Award-winning student filmmakers coming in from SUNY Purchase University

(New York) to shoot.


Phases of Mahina is a film about a young woman struggling with family, cultural

relevance and the temptations of the modern world. Taught by her Grandmother

in the traditional art of Tapa cloth making, Mahina dreams of one day owning a

store and leaving her life and responsibilities behind. Hina, the goddess of the

moon for whom Mahina is named, was the greatest tapa cloth maker in Hawaiian


Mahina lives with her older brother, Makoa in a small house in Waianae. Makoa

is immature and irresponsible and lives off of Mahina's charity. Mahina works as

a maid in a hotel to support her brother and herself. Things begin to change for

Mahina when she meets Chris, a military officer recently stationed in Hawaii.

Wednesday, December 10th- 4:00 P.M – 9:00 P.M

15 minute intervals.

Saturday, December 13th – 2:00 P.M – 6:00 P.M

Monday, December 15th – 4:00 P.M – 9:00 P.M

Wednesday, December 17th evening

January 3-18th

Mahina – Hawaiian, early-mid 20’s. Trained by her Grandmother (Tutu) in the art of tapa

making. Feels tied to the traditions instilled in her by her Grandmother. Lives with her

brother Makoa and feels responsible for him. Looking for an escape from her life. Works

at a hotel as a maid and tries to save money to open her own tapa cloth shop. Feels stuck

in her life. She is drawn to Chris and his care free life.

Makoa – Hawaiian, early 20’s. Mahina’s younger brother. Never really grew up,

Irresponsible and insecure. Reliant on Mahina. Has a daughter that he doesn’t see very


Chris – All-American, early-mid 20’s. Charming and attractive. Military officer from the

mainland recently stationed in Hawaii. Looking for authentic local experiences. Attracted

to Mahina, yet remains shallow.

Susan – (any ethnicity) Early-mid 20’s. Mahina’s friend from work. Wild party-girl type.

Wants Mahina to be more outgoing.

Joji Yoshida will be producing an Actors Audition & Casting Seminar with a prominent Casting Director from Los Angeles.  The workshop will be held in Honolulu in January.  Date and location will be announced soon.  Space is limited!
