Casting Call
The film is called, "Leland."  It is a story about a local Japanese father who is a 'deadbeat', living off of his family who feel it is their duty to support him.  His genius daughter wants to go to college but feels obligated to take care of her father because everyone else has left him.  She'll never be able to live her life until he figures out his.

(The film will be shot on RED.)

The remaining parts are;
JANELLE ($200/10 hours)
45ish, Asian female.  She is the wife of "Leland" and mother of the lead girl, "Lindsay."  She is pulling all of the weight of the family, financially and otherwise.
UNCLE STAN ($150/6 hours)
65-70ish, Male, Ideally Japanese.  He is the 'fixer' in the family, tough with the elders, gentle with the kids.
GRANDMOTHER ($150/6 hours)
75-80ish, Female, Ideally Japanese.  She enables her son, Leland.
I can forward sides to those who are interested.  Please can email me at; jasonhoneycutt@hotmail.com

SMART CO-LAB LOOKING CHINA YOUTH FILM PROJECT

ACM is offering a new SMART co-Lab this year through the Looking China Youth Film Project offered by Beijing Normal University. Program dates are July 4-21, and the program will be held in Beijing, China.

Up to three ACM students will be selected as part of a student group of about 10 students from ACM UHM, VCA School of Film & Television at the University of Melbourne, and Media, Film and Television at Auckland University and accompanied by a staff or faculty member. Each student will be paired with a Chinese facilitator and be provided production support and guidance to produce a 10-minute documentary on this year’s Chinese cultural theme: CRAFTSMANSHIP, INHERITENCE, AND INNOVATION. Individual subjects must be approved by the producer, and the program will retain copyright, but students will be allowed to enter their films into film festivals.

The LOOKING CHINA program will cover the key expenses of the trip, including roundtrip airfare and lodging, as well as a small per diem. Students should plan for an out of pocket expense of approximately $500 to cover their individual portion of miscellaneous expenses such as travel insurance and a China visa application fee. Students must also provide their own laptop with editing software and a video camera (DSLR and ILC cameras are acceptable).

For more information, please download the below program brochure, or visit the program website at www.lookingchina.cn.
