I was just wondering if there's a way to just work behind the scenes. I want to know how it works and the different job opportunities there are. Does anyone know if someone (me) could intern or somehow be able to work behind the scenes of these for the up coming movies or shows filming here in Hawaii? I was thinking of volunteering at either Manoa Valley Theatre or Diamond Head Theatre just to get a head start. Any suggestions?

The Hawaii Production Index is probably the best bet for the most information. Here's the link. http://hawaiifilm.com/

You might want to re-title your group. Cast and Crew are two separate entities.
To get in as a crew member you need to contact your local IA. That is short for IATSE (International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees).
In Hawaii that is Local 665 (collective union).

There is a lot of people sitting on the bench with union status waiting for the call for work. Your best bet in getting into the union is a constant reminder that you are here and ready for work.

I am a veteran of the crew industry (NYC) and it took me two months of walking into the union hall to get a couple of day gigs.

They love persistence. It shows that you are eager to join and that you will not give up.

Bring your resume down to the union hall in person once a week to show that you are interested.

I've actually found that it is easier to get acting work than crew work here, presumably that there are a lot of union crew members out of work due to slow times.
But there is a ton of works in the mist so they are sure to be busy, this is your time to get on the band wagon and get your union status.

P.S. I've started a new group to discuss film and television entitled "What are You Watching" please join.

Mahalo.
