What would define a "Hawaii Filmmaker"? Perhaps someone that shoots a project pertaining to Hawaii. All in all, I for one would love meet with any filmmaker.

Yea funding is a problem, I mean what should do rob a bank.Oh yea did that already haha, but what about setting up a production company? and how do get in touch with Gerard Elmore ,thanks people

I think you can try talking to local film makers like Gerard Elmore who have been able to find funding for their short and/or low budget films. Networking seems to be the key. That and using your friends as free or really, really cheap crew and cast.
Look at successful film makers like Sam Raimi and Robert Rodriguez and Kevin Smith. Those guys worked with incredibly low budgets, rented equipment, recruited their friends and family to work on the films and/or help finance and used whatever they could find for sets and props.

Yes, financing is always a problem especially without a film behind your belt, everyone has independent views but we are usually all in the same boat :)
